YOU ARE HERE is a diary of lockdown, a collection by Heather Wastie of poetry and photographs taken in 2020 in her garden and nearby countryside. Interspersed with media quotes for added context, the collection begins with President Trump’s reassurance in January 2020 that “It’s going to be just fine” and, when lockdown is announced, a desperate hunt for toilet rolls. The collection then tracks a journey through fear, love, death, confusion and hope via weird dreams, and ends with gratitude for the act of breathing and a heightened appreciation of the joy of living.
